April 13, 2026 marked one year since Mother Mi Safe Space for Special Children Foundation began its journey, and there was no place more fitting to celebrate than surrounded by the children who give this mission its true meaning.

The day began at Oki Nursery and Primary Inclusive School in Oki, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. The visit was led by the founder, Mrs. Adejoke Adebayo, alongside trustee Mr. Adebayo and dedicated volunteers who have stood with the foundation from the beginning. Arriving at the school, the team was met with genuine warmth. The pupils welcomed everyone with open arms, filling the classrooms with songs, bright smiles, and pure excitement. Before parting ways, each child was presented with a celebration gift pack, and in response to the facility's pressing electricity challenges, the foundation pledged a generator to help support their everyday learning environment.

The outreach continued with a visit to the Down syndrome school in Iju, Fagba, Lagos. The welcome there was just as heartfelt, with the learners receiving the team with open arms and joining in the festivities. Sharing those moments of laughter, song, and mutual appreciation served as another moving reminder of the beauty within these special learning spaces.

Looking back on this first milestone, the entire day was less about ceremony and more about quiet presence. Spending time across both communities reaffirmed the work that lies ahead, reminding everyone involved of the vital importance of showing up, listening closely, and ensuring every single learner feels seen and valued.
